Equestrian
The OVS Equestrian Program is designed to teach students to practice sportsmanship and patience and, in the process, build confidence and self-esteem.
At the Upper Campus, students may choose riding as their sport. All interested students are encouraged to participate, from those who have never before ridden to advanced equestrians competing on a regular basis. English language learners, for safety reasons, will need to demonstrate basic English language skills and be willing to expand their vocabulary to include specific equestrian terminology.
Many students will achieve the basic skills and ride only for recreation, whereas others will work to perfect their skills and compete in local or regional competitions.
The program encourages and tries to accommodate both English and Western riders. However, it must be stressed that being an academic school, not a riding stable, the focus is on equestrian education with competition being only one aspect of the total educational experience.
All riders will need to have the appropriate helmet, boots and gear. For more details about the program, please contact Equestrian Director Stephanie Gustafson at sgustafson@ovs.org.
