Welcome to Parent Central
At OVS we recognize the need for parents to be informed about the number and variety of activities happening on campus. We also recognize that our parents have schedules that don’t always permit them to attend campus events. So whether your child is boarding in our dorms or a day student commuting to school, this section is designed to keep you informed and make your experience at OVS as enriching as possible. The Parent Club is made up of each and every parent/guardian at OVS. A parent of an OVS student is automatically a member of the Parent Club.
The Parent Club meetings serve as a forum for teachers and departments needing parental assistance or participation. The Headmaster and/or one of the Assistant Headmasters attend each meeting, and go over the upcoming calendar of school events.
Some of the activities of the Parent Club include decorating the campus for the winter holidays, acting as host families for visiting students from the Peterson School in Mexico City and for our OVS ESL students for the home-stay weekend, working at the Book Fair, running the cake walk during Parent Weekend, helping with sets or costumes for school performances, baking cookies/treats for Campus Lighting, and helping to prepare for High Tea.
One of the ways the Parent Club assists OVS is to purchase items not otherwise covered by the OVS budget. Often teachers will make specific requests of the Parent Club and the Parent Club seeks to meet the needs. Funds raised by the Parent Club have been used to purchase supplies for the student kitchen, a new playhouse for the preschoolers, yoga supplies, defibrillators, lockers, DJs for school socials, and equipment to outfit the new Greenberg Activities Center, among many other expenditures. The Parent Club engages in a few fundraising endeavors during the year.
