The Ojai Valley School varsity volleyball team emerged victorious Saturday in its first game of the season, defeating Midland School in three straight sets.

Senior Lindsey Hanselman led the Spuds with eight aces and two kills. Junior Mia Carmen established her presence on the court, acing the opposition four times and nailing three successful hits.

Coach Lauren Smith expressed pride in her student-athletes after the game. 

“I was glad to see my lady Spuds fight against Midland,” Ms. Smith said.

“ I was proud of my young team, with only two varsity returning players, to come out strong and lead their team to a victory," she said. "We have a lot of work to do, but I know that my girls are ready to step up to the plate.”
