From the classroom to the field, OVS senior Henry Mooney stands out among the crowd in many areas, including academics, athletics and the arts.
It comes as no surprise to those who know him that he is the captain of the varsity lacrosse team, takes three Advanced Placement classes, and pursues his passion for film-making every chance he gets.
Evidently, hard work really does pay off.
Henry recently received recognition through the Discus Awards program for being an all around stand-out student, putting him in the running to potentially earn a $2,000 college scholarship.
“Winning this award meant an incredible amount to me,” Henry said. “My hard work in regards to becoming an overall outstanding student has been recognized, and if there’s even a slight chance that I‘ll receive the scholarship money, that’s fantastic in my eyes.”
To be in the running for the award and scholarship, Henry was required to write a page about his accomplishments in the areas of academics, athletics, and the arts, highlighting his most significant achievements in each category.
Henry’s mother, Alex Mooney, has been a tremendous supporter of his throughout his entire school experience. She always believes in him and is extremely proud of his accomplishments.
“It’s harder to feel prouder than I already do on a daily basis,” said Ms. Mooney, coordinator of the website and publications for Ojai Valley School. “Honestly, being Henry’s mom is the greatest gift I could imagine, and this is just icing on the already great cake.”
